Choose the evening
you want to host.

You may already have a look in mind, or just know the kind of evening you want. Tell us about the occasion and your guest list; we’ll help choose the entertainment and decorations.

Options include Casino Nights, a mystery story, a garden gathering or a party inspired by a favourite decade. A hosted activity can fill the evening or sit between food, speeches and time to catch up.

Pick the atmosphere, then the details

A retro party, a garden gathering and a masquerade suggest different ways to spend the evening. Choose the atmosphere first, then the features that will create it, from lighting to the main activity.

Some guests enjoy costumes and character roles; others prefer something less structured. We’ll help match the activities to your group so people know what to expect and can join comfortably.

Make the host’s job manageable

When you’re hosting, you shouldn’t have to answer every timing question. A running order sets out arrivals, entertainment and the main celebration moments, so the people helping you know what happens next.

A host can welcome guests into an activity, explain the next round or introduce a speech. A coordinator can also help keep the evening on time while you spend time with friends.

Three ways
to set the scene.

Start with the part of the evening you want guests to share. These three approaches leave different amounts of time for conversation.

The social centrepiece

Casino Nights

Hosted tables give friends an activity to enjoy together, particularly when they know different people in the group. Leave space nearby to talk, take photographs and watch before joining in.

The shared story

Murder Mystery Events

Character notes and clues lead towards a shared reveal. The amount of role-play can range from a few light prompts to a more theatrical evening, depending on the group.

The visual occasion

A styled gathering

An entrance feature, table decorations and lighting can carry a Gatsby, Hollywood, tropical, winter or garden theme, while leaving the rest of the evening open for your own plans.

Personal touches

Choose the moments
you want to remember.

Tell us about the moments you don’t want to miss, such as a cake, a speech or a surprise announcement. Putting them in the running order gives guests time to gather and enjoy them.

A chosen decade or a custom question round can make the event personal. Share the guest of honour’s interests and the kind of attention they enjoy, so the details feel right for them.

A styled photo area gives guests somewhere to take pictures together. Position it where people can gather without blocking the tables or the route through the room.

A home, garden or hired room

At home, think about the space guests will use and where the entertainment will go. In a hired room, photos or a floor plan help you picture the layout before choosing decorations.

For a garden event, decide where guests can go if the weather changes. An indoor room or sheltered area may let the celebration continue with a different layout.

Choose where to spend your budget

Choose the main experience first, then add styling around it. A hosted activity and one focal decoration can be enough; you don’t need the whole room transformed to make the occasion feel special.

The Private Celebrations pricing section shows the starting package and optional additions. It is also the place to check which other services need their own budget.

Private Celebrations pricing

Private Celebrations: from NZ$1,500, with an indicative range of NZ$1,500–5,000. If you mainly want a hosted activity, compare Casino Nights or Team & Mystery Activities on Pricing.

Common questions

Can you plan a birthday without a fixed theme?

Yes. Tell us about the person and the kind of evening they would enjoy. A favourite decade, a colour palette or a shared story can be enough to give the celebration a direction.

Can an event take place at our home?

It may be possible. Send a few photos and measurements of the space you want to use. We can then help you choose an activity and layout that fit the property.

Do all guests have to take part in every activity?

No. Activities can leave room to watch, take a break and rejoin. Tell us how well guests know each other and whether you want a structured evening or a more relaxed gathering.

Can you keep a celebration a surprise?

Yes, with a reliable contact who can receive messages and help with access and arrivals. Let us know who we should speak to without revealing the surprise to the guest of honour.

What happens if outdoor plans need to change?

Plan an indoor or sheltered alternative before the event. If the forecast changes, that gives you somewhere to move the celebration. See Terms for changes to booked arrangements.

Can we supply our own decorations or music?

Yes. Tell us what you want to bring so it works with the rest of the event. Check your venue’s rules for installing decorations and playing music before making those plans.
